4 Ways to Relax and Restore on Labor Day

The 1st of September in the U.S. is dedicated to the economic and social achievements of American workers. In the 1830s, manufacturing workers were putting in 70-hour weeks on average. Later, these hours dropped but still wasn’t enough. Union organizers began to focus on winning a shorter eight-hour workday. They also focused on getting workers more days off, such as the Labor Day holiday, and reducing the workweek to just six days. So, now that we have this day thanks to them, use it to really restore and relax by trying one or a few of these things!

Sleep in

Sleep in – without feeling guilty. Go for a solid 10 hours Sunday. Don’t set your alarm clock and just allow yourself to sleep in as late as you need to. Your body probably needs this adjustment if you’re the type that stays up late.

Boost serotonin levels and endorphins

Monday, do something that makes you feel good. This will boost your “happy hormones” (serotonin) and your endorphins.  Go on a bike ride or a jog or spend time with loved ones.  A yoga class could be an excellent choice bc of its restoring and centering benefits.

Find some quiet time

Take a few moments to reflect on all of your successes and be proud of what you’ve accomplished. Think about where you are now and where you want to go. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

A day off increases productivity

Taking a day or two (maybe more if you can) to recharge your batteries can help you to return to work refreshed and refocused. Sometimes, all it takes is a clear mind to efficiently solve a lingering problem, boost your productivity or envision your future success.
